Highfield Community Centre

A place for all Highfield residents

About Us

A little bit of history
Our Community Centre arrived with the 1970’s but the organization itself started in 1962. We gathered in Highfield School and Bingo was always on a Friday night.
Old time dancing on a Wednesday, the Gardening club also met and had a garden behind the Heights shop’s selling plants etc. Dances were held on New Years Eve, Valentines Day and St Patrick’s Day.
Later in 1966 saw the start of Amateur dramatics and variety shows and the start of our annual Pantomimes.
Today still has the same enthusiasm, but is very different, Bingo is as popular as it ever was, Keep Fit, Kickboxing, Bowls, and Psychic Evenings.
With the turn of the century came our Internet Cafe.  This provides another way of socializing with the meeting point and  our volunteers on hand to give friendly advice for all.

Highfield Hall now known as Highfield Community Centre
Was opened on the 31st January 1970 By Reginald Freeson ESQ., MP. Parliamentary Secretary to The Ministry of Housing & Local Government
The Chairman on the day of the 1st January 1993 said that the lease was finally handed to Highfield Community Centre and that it was a fast learning experience, managing the day to day responsibilities keeping this important building open and available to local people.
